Chicken Rib and AR168J Hardware Design

Chicken rib tasted much worse than prime rib or chicken wing, but there is pity to throw it away. AR168J IP phone hardware reference design is just the same.
It is almost a year now since AR168F IP phone hardware design released. AR168J is the answer to many problems found during the production of AR168F based IP phones. It has much more steady keypad design and also support more keys. And it has much lower noise with more robust board design. Hardware version 6.00 AR168J was planned to replace hardware version 4.06 AR168F in June.
We have also found problems which can not be solved by hardware board change. There are two of them mostly critical, we do not have enough DSP power to do 3-way conference, and we do not have enough internal SRAM to handle large IP-fragmented SIP message. The answer for those problems is an improved chip, AR1688+.
With AR1688+ chip almost ready today, it is a difficult question for us to deal with AR168J design. We finally decided not to promote it. However, for many customers who already bought sample or small quantity AR1688 chip with programmed AR168F software program flash and wish to try AR168J, please send email to support@palmmicro.com to ask for updated 6.00 hardware design.
